Return to family history
Laura's husband was George Fairclough. Alan Brind said in August 2004: "My uncle George was a magistrate so he had half a pig hanging up in his shed (during the war despite rationing). He ran a granary, a very large building on the railway line in Reefham. He went to every market and set up his stall. He was the senior man amongst the wheat traders . Wheat and oats and barley and cattle nuts (animal feed). He worked for (a company called) Colliers and he sold coal as well. We went to stay in Reefham because it saved my aunt and uncle having to take in refugees. They thought we were infinitely preferable to some snotty nosed kid. They were wrong of course. He was no more than 50 I would think. His son Ray went straight in the army because he was a territorial got captured and was in Japanese prisoner of war camp. Daughter's husband name was Douglas. She was a great pianist. What was her name?

George and Laura Fairclough had a four bedroomed house but it was not very big. Alan Brind's mother (Hilda) slept in the girl's room who had got married. "I was in Ray's room."

The above was written while we were staying at Clare's parents house during the refurbishment of 3 St Helier's Road in autumn 1981. Arthur was born in May 1981.

Dear Jonathan, Many thanks for the Xmas card & newsletter. Very sorry to hear of Simon's death, & of your other problems.

We are both well, although Wendy had to have a triple by-pass in September, but is recovering.

MY note: I imagine that Victor means by the phrase base son that Percy Robert was illegitimate.
